How CityView Technologies are Helping One Georgia County Through the Pandemic

Cherokee County reports that the CityView Portal has helped keep business “as normal as possible” during COVID-19

CityView PortalCherokee County, Georgia, a CityView customer since 2003, recently achieved 10,000 user activations on its CityView Portal. “On April 28, we celebrated our 10,000th CityView user activated on the Portal,” said Kevin J. Cully of the County’s IT department. “The user registered for a portal account, then pulled a land disturbance permit for a retail development, which is currently undergoing electronic plan review.”

The CityView Portal provides a convenient and easy way for citizens, contractors and businesses to self-serve, alleviating the workload on County employees. It allows citizens to log and monitor code complaints; pay fees and fines; and submit service requests. Businesses can apply for licenses and pay renewal fees.

“The Portal averages 4.5 registrations a day, 7 days a week for us,” Kevin said. “The CityView Portal has helped keep business as normal as possible during this international emergency. We anticipate hitting 15,000 active Portal users in May of 2023.

Cherokee County also uses CityView Electronic Plans Review. This paperless review software enables no-contact delivery of plans, markup and follow-up, since everything is done online.

Another recent installation was CityView Mobile. Kevin reports that, “Our building inspectors love it because they can look at all documents related to the project which may affect how they measure the requirements of the inspection.” Because all inspection results can be recorded out in the field with a mobile device, customers and citizens can see the outcome seconds after the inspection is complete. This is, Kevin notes, “a huge benefit to the people living and working and developing in Cherokee County.”

As a matter of fact, not only has business been relatively normal, the County has seen an uptick in permit applications, which result in inspections, recently. Luckily, Cherokee has been able to keep up with the demand, thanks to CityView’s adaptive technologies.

The screen shot below shows Cherokee County’s CityView Mobile activity in relation to the number of permits processed and inspections completed on a single day, March 19, 2020. On that day, 21 permits were created through CityView Portal and 160 inspections completed via CityView Mobile.

“You can see that we’re using the heck of our CityView Mobile installation,” Kevin comments. “All of our building inspections are done out in the field. We are about to bring the engineering inspections to Mobile as well.”

Cherokee is also grateful for CityView Business Licensing, which enabled the County to take the entire process, from application to renewal, online.
