Victoria, British Columbia, June 15, 2004
Victoria, British Columbia, June 11, 2004 - Municipal Software Corporation, the developer of CityView, local government business process automation software, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Municipal Solutions Group, Inc. (TSX-V:MSM), is proud to announce that the City of Greater Sudbury, Ontario has purchased CityView to handle online building permits, as part of its SmartSudbury Program. SmartSudbury is an initiative of e-sudbury.com, and is committed to leveraging technology in order to improve the quality of life for residents of Greater Sudbury.
According to Municipal Software Corporation President and CEO Robert Bennett, "We are excited to be involved in such an ambitious and forward-thinking project with the City of Greater Sudbury. The SmartSudbury Program is truly a vision for the future and we are glad to know that CityView will be a part of it. Sudbury joins 30 other customers in Ontario who are using CityView to assist in departmental or enterprise functions, bringing better service and decreased costs to their constituents."
The CityView online building permit component of the SmartSudbury Program is just one piece of the overall initiative. The city also plans to create a community web portal that will provide residents with one-window access to the community. Through the GeoSmart project, the SmartSudbury team is also developing a comprehensive Geographic Information System (GIS) for both internal and external use at the City of Greater Sudbury. According to Doug Nadarozny, General Manager of Economic Development and Planning Services at the City of Greater Sudbury, "future plans for automation include exploring other uses of CityView throughout the City of Greater Sudbury, which will continue to improve municipal efficiencies."
SmartSudbury envisions Greater Sudbury as a City of the future: a community that uses information and communications technologies in new and innovative ways to empower its residents, institutions and the community as a whole. SmartSudbury is funded by the City of Greater Sudbury, the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and FedNor. SmartSudbury has partnered with Microsoft, Navantis, iPLAN Corp., and Municipal Software Corp. in order to complete its projects.
According to Guido Mazza, Chief Building Inspector at the City of Greater Sudbury, "The City of Greater Sudbury wanted software to provide the functionality of online building permits to residents and contractors in Greater Sudbury. CityView and Municipal Software were selected based on existing partnerships between the City of Greater Sudbury and Pen Systems, a Municipal Software business partner and a vendor of record with the City. It was in the best interests of the SmartSudbury program to leverage these existing partnerships and utilize software that will allow for seamless integration with Inspector+, which is currently used in building controls."
