Strong CityView User Community Helps Darien, CT Taxpayers

Darien CT goes live with its CityView Permits and Inspections System.
Victoria, B.C., April 7, 2006 - Thanks in part to collaboration with the Town of Waterford, the Town of Darien, Connecticut went live this week with its new CityView System. Based on a CityView application already running in Waterford, CT, Darien now has a centralized database to process and track all Board and Commission permits and applications. CityView is expected to help the Town of Darien keep pace with increasing citizen-service demands, while working with a tight budget and stagnant staff levels.
"Investment in smart technology like CityView doesn't allow us to cut staff," said Parks & Recreation Director Susan Swiatek, "but it does allow us to meet demand without hiring extra staff."
Darien made their own arrangement with Waterford to provide the source database and forms. Municipal Software used the Waterford application as a prototype and refined it to Darien's requirements. Molding the Waterford application to Darien's processes cut costs and substantially reduced the implementation timeline.
This process inspired Municipal Software's new CityView PreBuilt product line, which can shorten lead times for all clients.

CityView replaces a series of MS Access databases and Excel spreadsheets, plus paper card systems for tracking their various permit applications. It shares information with Darien's GIS and Computerized Assisted Mass Appraisal system for ownership and assessment information. CityView will integrate with their Planning, Zoning and Building Departments to coordinate the review process.
